Description
The Etruscans were an ancient people who had developed their own culture in Italy even before the Romans. For a long time, however, little was known about them, until in the 19th century, through excavations, more and more new finds saw the light of day - including ancient Etruscan jewellery. These previously unknown forms were quickly imitated and reinterpreted many times. Under the name Etruscan Revival, jewellery was created that initially imitated Etruscan pieces, but eventually became independent designs using Etruscan-inspired details. As typically Italian materials, these jewellery pieces were often created using gold and coral. The present pieces show the typical characteristics of this style, which delighted people especially in the 1860s and 1870s. They are a pendant and a matching pair of earrings, which together form a so-called demi-parure. The designs are concentric around a large coral bouton. The rich, luminous gold is finely textured with delicate overlays of gold cord. This results in a particularly detailed look, as it also characterized the ancient Etruscan jewellery. In the century and a half since its creation, this demi-parure went through several transformations and by the time it found its way to us, it was no longer wearable. Our goldsmiths have therefore renewed the hoops of the earrings and also added the coral drops. These are 19th century antique corals that match the large boutons perfectly in color. With a pendant bail also added and a new chain, all parts are now wearable again and invite you to a voyage of discovery to Italy.
