The pure radiance
Antique three carat solitaire of the years around 1890 in vintage gold setting
Throughout history, diamonds have been cut in ever new variations, always in search of the optimum brilliance. Technical developments set the pace, as did individual fashions of the time. The modern full-cut diamond, for example, which today often comes on the market fully calculated by computer, did not become the general standard until the middle of the 20th century. In the 19th century, the old cut prevailed, which left the diamond somewhat more individuality and was guided more by the initial shape of the stone found. Thus, the individual diamond at the center of this antique ring appears slightly cushion-shaped with hand-applied facets. The diamond weighs 3.03 carats and has a warm white color (top cape, L) with some inclusions (pi). According to its fom, it was cut in the late 19th century. The diamond is presented here in a classic and timeless design as a solitaire. The setting holds the magnificent center stone in high karat gold, reduced to six unobtrusive pips that together form a raised coronet setting. Adjacent to this is a narrow ring rail, so the focus is solely on the large diamond. The stamps show that the setting was made after 1953 in Gouda, the Netherlands. The diamond was precisely balanced and graduated. Subsequently, the finished ring was appraised by DeGEB in Idar-Oberstein. The independent appraisal is included with the ring.
