Description
Colorful and expressive is the present ring from the years around 1970. The ring face is in the form of a square set on the top and presents a peridot in strong lime green. The stone is faceted in a square step cut and of very good quality. Large peridots are relatively rare and the stone is very pure for its size, except for a few small black inclusions towards the edge that attest to its natural formation. A tall setting of bright gold holds the stone securely. Peridot, supposedly Cleopatra's favorite stone, in whose homeland there are still significant deposits today, experienced a real fashion in England at the turn of the 20th century. You could say it now succeeded to become the favorite stone of those years, because it can be found in many pieces of jewellery of the turn of the century and late Victorian jewellery is unthinkable without the lively green of the peridot. The expressive ring is beautifully preserved. Its geometric-expressive design language betrays the influence of Art Deco. A wonderful eye-catcher in spring-fresh colors.

The main mining area of peridot since ancient times until well into the 20th century was St. John's Island in the Red Sea. The island, also known as Zabargad, is uninhabited and the subject of many myths and legends. The ancient author Pliny the Elder knows it as "Topazos", other authors of antiquity think that wild cavemen lived there, defending their treasures against all strangers.
