Fahrner jewellery from Pforzheim occupies a special place in the history of jewellery from Germany. For Theodor Fahrner and later his successor Gustav Braendle knew how to make artistically convincing designs and high-quality workmanship the hallmark of their brooches, necklaces, bracelets and earrings in the epochs of Art Nouveau and Art Deco like hardly any other modern jewellery manufacturer. But even during the period of reconstruction after 1945, Fahrner jewellery remained a household name. At first, the company mainly produced designs that formally followed on from its earlier successes. But soon Pforzheim was also producing in the taste of the new age. Interesting and unusual structures, daring volumes and expressive reliefs were in demand. "Textures fascinate craftsmen today more than ever before" wrote Graham Hughes in "Modern Jewelry", London 1963. The wide bracelet presented here is a beautiful and rare example from the Fahrner manufactory. Cushion-shaped concave links, with radiating reliefs, each carry an amazonite in the center. The turquoise gemstones are cut in a barrel shape and show beautiful natural grains. The textured and lightly patinated silver refracts the incident light to great effect. Due to the handcrafted nature of the design, the amazonite bracelet looks like a hand-forged unique piece. Since the early years of the company, travelling salesmen with large sample cases had presented the new products developed in Pforzheim to local jewellers every year. One such sample case had lain untouched in an attic for more than 40 years until it was offered to us. It contained samples of almost all series from about 1919 until the dissolution of the company in 1979, mostly marked with a model number or the "Original Fahrner" seal. This piece of jewellery from the years around 1970 comes from this sample case and is therefore unworn and perfectly preserved. Fahrner jewellery is readily collected. Schmuck zwischen Avantgarde und Tradition", edited by Brigitte Leonhardt and Dieter Zühlsdorff, Stuttgart 2005.
