Together through time

Fine antique trilogy ring with diamonds & natural pearl, around 1910

Pieces of jewelry are to this day and were in earlier times often gifts of love. So it stands to reason that many a design already carries a sentimental meaning. After all, how can a promise be expressed more beautifully than in the form of precious jewelry that the person receiving the gift can always carry with them? This ring is a so-called "trilogy ring", which gets its romantic meaning from the two large diamonds and the fine natural pearl in its center: This setting is embedded here as a symbol of a shared past, present and shared future. The fact that the present is elevated above the past and the future reveals where the focus of the relationship should be: In the here and now, that it is to enjoy! The choice of materials adds another nuance to this symbolic message, since diamonds in the context of love gifts stand for the indestructibility of a relationship and the pearl is used as an attribute of the goddess of love, because Venus, like the pearl, was born from a shell. Typical for the years around 1910, the ring is made of warmly shimmering gold and its top is covered with platinum to emphasize the white, very good color of the diamonds. The result is a bright, yet ware and elegantly shimmering piece of jewelry that is entirely in keeping with the taste of the Belle Époque. To us found the ring here in Berlin.

Among jewels, the pearl has a very special status, since it is not a mineral. Unlike gemstones, it does not have to be cut, but is found in the form in which it is then used in jewelry. Thus, until the early modern era, many myths surrounded its origin: "Of the origin and growth of these pearls are various myths among scholars / in that many hold with the old Pliny / they are generated from the dew / so dripping into the opening shells / generiret". (Museum Museorum Valentini 1704, quoted from Liselotte Hansmann/Lenz Kriss-Rettenbeck: Amulett und Talisman. Erscheinungsform und Geschichte, Munich 1966, p. 110).
