In the crystal clear waters of the tropical warm lagoons of the South Seas grows the silver-lipped oyster "Pinctada maxima". This shell produces the coveted white pearls known and prized as South Sea pearls. Unlike freshwater pearls, which are grown in former rice paddies in China, only one pearl can grow in each South Sea shell at a time, and it takes years for a pearl to mature inside the shell. Accordingly, genuine South Sea pearls are rare and precious. One particularly high-quality South Sea pearl is also at the center of each of these earclips. Both pearls are of individual, slightly baroque shape and show a rosy-silvery luster, which sets them apart from the warm gold of the setting. A wreath of baguette and trapezoid cut diamonds unfolds around the pearls. Four symmetrically placed groups of three brilliant-cut diamonds rhythmically break up their sequence. This creates a rich play of light reflections, which lives from the different cuts of the diamonds and the soft luster of the pearls. The earrings come to us from a high quality Hanseatic collection, which was created around the 1950s. They are wonderfully preserved and exude all the luxury and joie de vivre of their time of origin.
