In the history of jewellery from Germany, Fahrner jewellery from Pforzheim occupies a special place. For Theodor Fahrner and later his successor Gustav Braendle knew how to make artistically convincing designs and quality workmanship the hallmark of their brooches, necklaces, bracelets and earrings in the epochs of Art Nouveau and Art Deco like hardly any other modern jewellery manufacturer. But even during the period of reconstruction after 1945, Fahrner jewellery remained a household name. At first, the company mainly produced designs that formally continued the old successes. But soon Pforzheim was also producing jewellery in the taste of the new era. The economic miracle had made gold jewellery affordable for broad sections of the population. And so Theodor Fahrner now also produced jewellery made of real gold. Previously, production had mostly been in gold-plated silver. The brooch presented here is made of yellow and white gold and shows the modernist style of the years around 1960. Structured gold rods together form an abstract bow. This delicate structure, reminiscent of fir branches, is centered by a cultured pearl. Since the early years of the company, traveling salesmen had used large sample cases to present the new products developed in Pforzheim to local jewelers. One such sample case had lain untouched in an attic for the last 40 years or more until it was offered to us for sale. It contained samples of almost all series from about 1919 until the dissolution of the company in 1979, mostly marked with a model number or the "Original Fahrner" seal. The piece of jewellery presented here comes from this case. It is therefore unworn and perfectly preserved. Fahrner jewellery is readily collected and the gold jewellery is rare and sought after. Jewellery between avant-garde and tradition", edited by Brigitte Leonhardt and Dieter Zühlsdorff, Stuttgart 2005.
