Stunning vintage ring with sapphires & diamonds, circa 2000

This stunning vintage ring from around 2000 plays with the contrasts of radiant white and dark blue. Its modern brilliant cuts delight with wonderful light refraction and are complemented by baguette-cut diamonds. As the setting for this elegant piece of jewellery, the precious stones and high-carat white gold sparkle coolly and challengingly in the light, while midnight blue sapphires provide a mysterious, dynamic counterpoint. The extravagant ring head presents a large brilliant-cut diamond weighing about a quarter of a carat at its centre. The calibrated sapphires form blue bands that surround this centre stone and are completed by rows of diamond baguettes that are also cut. To the right and left of the ring head, further small brilliant-cut diamonds glitter on the ring shoulders and fine millegraps break up the surfaces into countless points of light. The ring came to us from Italy, originating from a Roman estate. It is its stunning modernity and cool elegance that make the ring such a special eye-catcher: Immerse yourself in Italian elegance and lightness and the unconditional will for extravagance!

White jewels, i.e. jewellery in white colouring, celebrate light. At the end of the 19th century, the innovation of the electric light bulb turned night into day. Consequently, jewellery could now shine in the evening as never before. At the grand balls in Paris, London and St. Petersburg, ever more magnificent diamond necklaces were presented, as well as tiaras, brooches and rings, all dreams in white diamonds. Their forms were initially inspired by Napoleon's classicism. Delicate leaves and geometric patterns formed the basis. With the advent of modernism, the designs became more abstract and dynamic, and the formal world of Art Deco prevailed. After an interlude in the 1940s and 1950s, when yellow-gold pieces were once again in demand, the white jewels returned with renewed vigour in the 1960s - and remain modern to this day.
