Theodor Fahrner made artists' jewellery affordable because he combined modern forms with democratic materials. Salesmen with large sample cases presented the innovations developed in Pforzheim to local jewellers every year. One such sample case, full of unworn Fahrner jewellery, had lain untouched in an attic for the last 40 years or more until it was offered to us. It contained samples of almost every series from about 1919 until the company's dissolution in 1979, most marked with a model number or the "Original Fahrner" seal. The brooch presented here is from this collection. It is therefore unworn and perfectly preserved. The brooch shows up in the form of a two-part band that tapers to one end. The surface is crosshatched, small turquoises are scattered on it and a cultured pearl sits between the split band. This creates an exciting shape with beautiful play of the different materials. The brooch is made of silver that has been lightly gilded. It was executed in the 1950s and speaks the design language of that time. The original Fahrner seal has been preserved on the brooch as well as the Fahrner label with old order number. A wonderful overview of the wealth of designs can be found in the catalogue "Theodor Fahrner. Schmuck zwischen Avantgarde und Tradition", edited by Brigitte Leonhardt and Dieter Zühlsdorff, Stuttgart 2005. Discover all the other pieces of Fahrner jewellery we offer at this site.
