Description
All times have their fashions, and all fashions have their effects also on the field of jewellery. Jewellery of the 1980s is an often beautiful, and always impressive testimony of a time of optimism and abundance: The oil crisis seemed to be over, Wall Street was flourishing - People sipped cocktails and paid with credit cards, everything seemed possible. At the same time, a new image of women emerged. Self-confident and tough, asserting herself at work, in the face of men, successful, with broad shoulder pads and high heels, she adorned herself with rings, necklaces and brooches in hitherto unfamiliar dimensions, with reflective surfaces of yellow gold and rich trimmings of colored gemstones. A lot of costume jewellery was created, because executed in real materials the jewellery would have been unaffordable for most women, so large and heavy they should appear. But real jewellery was also produced in large numbers in the USA and Europe, of course. This pair of earrings from around 1985 speaks to the powerful design language of those years. Forged from high karat yellow gold, the pair came to us from the Rhineland and won us over with its appealing shape and quality. The show sides of the ear studs are designed in the form of small domes, each with a large brilliant-cut diamond of about 0.30 ct taking up the center. Starting from this, further brilliant-cut diamonds are set in a radiating pattern. Thus, the composition is reminiscent of the vault of heaven or the shining sun itself. In keeping with the aesthetic ideas of the time, the pair is highly polished and extremely decorative: the pair is a stylish statement piece of the 1980s with a very beautiful finish.
