Description
The present expressive ring radiates the elegance and optimism of German post-war modernism. A green emerald occupies its center and is embedded in a wreath twelve white diamonds. The gemstone has a weight of 1.68 carats and is designed in the classic step cut. This form of cut allows the color of the gemstone to stand out particularly well due to the large central table. The stone is held only by delicate pronges and thus seems to float in the approximately square ring face. Around the emerald, twelve small diamonds of excellent quality of about one carat total weight unfold a shimmering play of light. The diamonds are predominantly flawless and of very good color and light refraction. White the fine diamonds contrast with the green of the emerald. The settings and ring band are crafted of 14-karat white gold, whose bright luster ideally complements the play of color in the gemstone setting. With its magnificent features and elegant shape, the ring is a typical example of a 1960s jewellery design with timeless elegance. The ring came to us here in Berlin and, according to the hallmarking, was also made in Germany. The carat weights of the gemstones are noted in the ring band, so we can safely say that the ring setting was created by hand.

Jewellery of the 1960s is characterized by optimism and belief in progress. After the organic forms of the fifties, a new desire for geometry returned in the decade of the race to the moon. Rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings - the color of the decade was again white, like the stars, often combined with blue, like the sky of the night. Occasionally, in addition to sapphires, other colored stones are found in primary colors, but it is mainly the cool sparkle of diamonds, combined with white gold, that makes the charm of the jewelry of this period. The settings of the designs break away from the heavy lust for shiny yellow gold of late Art Deco and increasingly dissolve into a mesh of white gold rods. The filigree structures of space equipment, the antennas of Sputnik, but also the skeletal structures of the new skyscrapers may have been the inspiration here. It is not without reason that a brooch with the name "Cosmos" wins the prize for Jewel of the Year in 1967. And every single piece of jewelry wins lightness, light and elegance.
