Antique Belle Époque Ring with Zambian Emerald & Diamonds, c. 1915 & Later
Description
This ring shines in an unusual green colour: the delicately designed and finely crafted ring sets a large emerald from Zambia in a narrow frame made of platinum and diamonds. Typical for emeralds of this origin, the stone has a slightly cool green hue - a refreshing colour that matches the platinum frame. The emerald is also quite clear, with only a few bands and small inclusions along the growth direction of the stone causing light reflections in the emerald. The ring with its narrow, elegant ring band, the delicately hand-crafted, delicately decorated gold underlay and the slightly flower-shaped platinum display side is a typical ring of the early 20th century. Unfortunately, the ring bears no hallmarks that would reveal more precisely where it was made, but we assume that it was made in the 1910s, perhaps in Germany, or maybe in France or England. The emerald was only added to the ring later. Emeralds from Zambia have only been regularly available since the 1970s. Unfortunately, we do not know which stone originally adorned the ring. However, the emerald fits very well with the fine and exquisitely crafted ring. We discovered it as it is in the Rhineland. Two independent expertises have confirmed the origin and quality of the materials.
