Dark red garnets

Bracelet from our workshop made of vintage garnet beads, around 1950/2021

This bracelet consists of dark red garnet beads and a clasp made of gold-plated silver. The gemstones used here are most likely garnets from India. The stones came to us unmounted from the estate of an English dealer and we had them newly mounted. Since Queen Victoria was crowned Empress of India in 1877, the door to the precious gems of the Indian subcontinent was opened to the traders of the British Empire. Rubies, sapphires and emeralds, as well as large diamonds and precious coloured gemstones, now arrived on the island by sea - and were eagerly turned into jewellery by the goldsmiths in London and the other major centres of England. Three rows of garnets cut into gleaming spheres now make up the band of the jewel we have had re-strung from the old garnet spheres. Bars and a clasp made of gold-plated silver hold the garnets together and complement the dark red colouring wonderfully. The result is a decorative piece of jewellery that is reminiscent of the wonderful treasures of the Indian maharajas without being prohibitively expensive.
