Antique stick pin with natural pearl & diamonds in gold and platinum, around 1910

Today it is hardly part of the repertoire of modern goldsmiths and jewellers, but in the early 20th century the stick pin was part of the jewellery wardrobe of every well-endowed lady. From daytime specimens, in gold and set with pearls or colourful gemstones, to quality diamond pins for the evening, the baton brooch took many forms. The brooch here is a representative of this type, which pays homage to the aesthetics of the late Belle Époque. Delicate, ethereal designs were beloved in the early years of the still-young 20th century, worked in white luminous platinum on gold. At the center of the design is a delicate natural pearl, grown without human intervention. It sits on a narrow platinum bar set with a total of twelve old-cut diamonds. On the outside, the design is further accentuated by two large diamonds that reflect the round shape of the pearl. The two old-cut diamonds together weigh about one carat and impress with wonderful color and fine sparkle. The diamonds are surrounded by small shadow gaps that make them appear even larger. So everything seems to be balanced and in equilibrium in this piece of jewellery. Its noble, white design with rich diamonds once predestined the pin for festive jewelry of the evening. It could be worn to dinner, for example, or to a gala. Today these rules have been abolished and what is allowed is what pleases. The pin can also be worn on the lapel of a blazer or coat in a modern way. This elegant piece of jewellery came to us from Stuttgart.
