Antique 1.22 ct diamond in a modern white gold ring, circa 1850/2020
Our love of antique objects means that we, as antique jewellery dealers, also buy unmounted historical gemstones from time to time. Because every diamond in the so-called old cut is an unmistakable unique specimen with its very own character: Every single one of its facets is created by hand, its proportions often follow the shape of the rough crystal from which it was cut. Thus, beautiful old-cut diamonds are always individual gemstones with a very special charm and their very own charisma. A large diamond of 1.22 ct is at the center of this ring. The unique gemstone is shaped in a cushion-shaped old cut, more precisely in the so-called "old mine cut", which is often found in jewellery of the 19th century. It exhibits a warm, brown color, also known as champagne or cognac. A single dark inclusion in the otherwise very clear stone leads to the rating as pique. However, since this inclusion is located directly above the round and thus darker calette of old-cut diamonds, it is hardly noticeable to the naked eye. In order to emphasize the beautiful, natural color of the diamond, we had it set in a white gold setting that was created in a Chicago manufacture. The setting has delicate openings and is in the style of American Art Deco. An additional ring of brilliant-cut diamonds accentuates the warm hue of the center stone. The combination of a new, unworn ring and a historic diamond turns the ring into a high-quality engagement ring - the ideal choice for anyone whose jewellery should be a blank slate and yet who does not want to forego the beauty and individuality of antique pieces.
