A pledge of love

Antique ring with 0,80 ct old cut solitaire, around 1905/2021

"Even if the preferred gemstones change and only after years celebrate their resurrection as the darling of the ladies - the diamond has never lost its position, evenly like its impeccably clear fire it outlasts all currents of fashion. Understandable, therefore, that so many desires secretly aim at rings with diamonds..." (From a jewellery brochure of the 1930s) Hardly any piece of jewelry has the special meaning and deep symbolism of a diamond ring. As a sign of everlasting love and connection, the hardest mineral on earth has been worn for centuries - but its radiant sparkle will certainly not go out of fashion in the future. We are therefore delighted to present this ring, a wonderful brilliant-cut diamond solitaire whose simple elegance we are convinced of. The centrally set old cut diamond has individual proportions and good color with some larger inclusions that attest to its authenticity and make it affordable. Weighing approximately 0.80 ct and it is held in place by a sleek platinum lobed setting. As the ring's rail had become quite thin over the generations, our goldsmiths have renewed it according to the old model. The new ring band is forged from high-carat yellow gold, giving the ring a warm, shiny appearance. Simple and solidly crafted, the ring thus places the antique diamond at the centre of its design, just waiting to be a pledge of love once again.

The symbolic act of giving a diamond ring as an engagement gift is first documented in 1477 and can be traced back to Mary of Burgundy, who received a diamond ring as a promise of fidelity from her future husband, Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg. Wearing a ring as a sign of commitment on the third finger of the left hand, on the other hand, was already the custom of the ancient Egyptians, who believed that the "love vein" connected the heart to the left ring finger.
