Do you know how many stars there are...?

Antique star made of Bohemian garnets as a brooch, around 1880

Empress Elisabeth "Sisi" of Austria and Hungary had a weakness for stars: the famous portrait by Franz Xaver Winterhalter shows her with diamond stars in her hair, and at the sight of this beautiful brooch made of Bohemian garnets (a stone from one of the countries she ruled!) she would certainly have been tempted... The gorgeous antique brooch here is designed in the shape of a many-pointed star. The cut dark red pyrope garnets of Bohemian origin are arranged in three planes. Countless stones in classic rose cut show the skill of gemstone cutters of Bohemia. A safety chain with pin protects the brooch from loss. Created in the years around 1880 and thus already more than 140 years old, the little star is still a piece of jewelry that attracts attention and pleasantly pleases.

Garnets, as a dark, blood-red and mysterious stone has always been the object of desire of women of all ages. Garnet jewelry suits almost every occasion and therefore is worn not only in the evening or on festive occasions. The most widely used are the dark red pyrope garnets. In the Middle Ages, they were among the preferred carbuncle stones and even today you can see a lot of antique jewellery set with red garnets. These mostly come from the sites in Bohemia. Since the garnet as a gemstone is relatively insensitive, once acquired garnet jewelry can be a companion for a lifetime.
