From Tanzania to New York

Exciting vintage ring with tanzanite & diamonds in white gold, circa 1975

When gemologists brought the first blue gemstones from the steppe sands of Tanzania to New York in 1967, unknown until then on the gemstone market, the company Tiffany & Co. secured the rights to this mineral, which actually occurs on the earth's surface about one thousand times rarer than the diamond. Tiffany & Co. named the gemstone after the land of the Masai, in whose culture it is firmly anchored. Even today, Maasai chiefs present the mothers of their tribe with tanzanites when a child is born - a blessing for a healthy, fulfilled and successful life. Due to its rarity and beauty, it is not surprising that this gemstone from the savannahs of Tanzania has become one of the most sought-after minerals in the art of jewellery since its discovery! And to this day, hardly any stone achieves this deep colourfulness, in which one almost wants to sink if the quality is very good. We see a fantastically beautiful tanzanite, sparkling in a rich lilac tone, as the centre of a wave of ten white diamonds of the Top Wesselton colour grade and excellent clarity. As a rising strong sweep, the diamonds, weighing approximately 0.65 ct, shine the beautiful center stone in openwork dimple settings. This makes the ring a refreshing piece of summer jewelry. The ring is forged from white gold and dates to the mid-1970s - so it was created shortly after the discovery of what is still the only known tanzanite mine in the world. A stylish, hand-forged and unique piece of jewellery made of beautiful materials that came to us from southern Germany.
