Here comes the economic miracle!
Expressive ring with diamonds, Germany circa 1950
This ring is a fine example of a piece of jewellery from the German economic miracle. This era brought forth pieces of jewelry that often sought to connect with designs of the pre-war period. However, in contrast to the very delicate jewelry of those earlier years, the jewelry of the 1950s is characterized by the use of much stronger material. Thus, the diamond ring we would like to present to you here is also a classically massive child of its time. After the years of privation during the war, the heavy, precious material was supposed to offer a new feeling of luxury and joie de vivre. Five shimmering brilliant-cut diamonds of very good quality set the 14-carat gold ring with its white gold face. The brightly sparkling stones are arranged in a course across the finger and have a pronounced presence that is further enhanced by their box settings. The stones have a combined weight of approximately 0.76 carats and an excellent quality (Top Wesselton/vsi). The ring head, with its central band of diamonds, is extended into gentle arches by small struts at the top and bottom, giving the ring a lovely volume. Everything about the hand-forged ring shines and is magnificent, yet restrained in its design language, making it easy to combine with other jewelry. A unique piece, high-quality and stylish!
The first years of the young Federal Republic experienced a previously unseen increase in wealth and quality of life with the economic miracle. After the sorrows of the war years, the displays of the shops shone in new luxury, and not least jewellery and watches also served to visibly show the new joie de vivre to the outside world. The style of the jewellery of these years was often oriented towards the late Art Déco, as it had been developed since the 1920s and continued to determine the designs of the large goldsmith companies, especially in the USA and France: rich furnishings, clear geometries and an exuberant sparkle of high-quality gemstones determined the picture.
