Lights and Music On

Precious vintage earrings in white & yellow gold with diamonds, circa 1988

"We're walking like in the dolce vita This time we got it right We're living like in the dolce vita Gonna dream tonight We're dancing like in the dolce vita With lights and music on Our love is made in the dolce vita Nobody else than you" The 1980s, when Ryan Paris landed this hit, were a time of optimism and abundance: the oil crisis seemed to be over, Wall Street was booming - people sipped cocktails and paid with credit cards, everything seemed possible. At the same time, a new image of women emerged. Self-confident and tough, asserting herself at work, in the face of men, successful, with broad shoulder pads and high heels, she adorned herself with rings, necklaces and brooches in hitherto unusual dimensions, with reflective surfaces of yellow gold and rich trimmings of colored gemstones and diamonds. A lot of costume jewelry was created, because executed in real materials the jewelry would have been unaffordable for most women, so large and heavy they should appear. But real jewelry was also produced in large numbers in the U.S. and Europe, of course. The present pair of earrings is a particularly fine piece of jewelry from this decade that can be accurately dated thanks to the original preserved jewel passport from 1988. The plugs vary the classic creole motif and are made of 14-karat yellow and white gold. They present a sparkling setting of 0.50 carats of diamonds in excellent quality. This results in exciting light reflections that give the ear jewelry a magnificent appearance. The beautifully preserved pair is a high quality as well as stylish ear jewelry from the decade of "Dolce Vita".
