Three times us
Fine Art Deco trilogy ring with diamonds in white gold & platinum, circa 1930
Three radiant old-cut diamonds are arranged in a row. They rest on a slightly domed ring head that is entirely covered in platinum. Around the three precious stones of about 0.58 ct together, the design stretches into an elongated shuttle with slightly sloped sides. Delicately sawn shadow gaps in combination with the finest mille handles determine the design of the metal surfaces, creating a wonderful play of light and shadow. The use of three stones in this piece makes it a so-called "trilogy ring", ideal as an engagement ring. In its three stones, the shared past, present and future become apparent, thus providing a reference to a life lived together. The slightly larger diamond in the centre emphasises the present - and thus encourages us to enjoy every day together. The combination of metals is also typical of the period, as a fine layer of platinum has been added to the base metal of white gold on the front. This procedure can only be found in jewellery of the early 20th century, because the early white gold - patented only in 1913 - was often still slightly yellowish. This yellow tint is only visible here under a magnifying glass. With its emphasis on geometry and delight in light, the piece is in keeping with the early 1930s fashion we associate with Art Deco. Its fine craftsmanship also allows us to date it securely to this period.
"Even if the preferred gemstones change and celebrate their resurrection as the darling of the ladies only after years - the brilliant has never lost its position, evenly like its impeccably clear fire it outlasts all currents of fashion. It is therefore understandable that so many desires secretly aim at rings with diamonds..." (From a 1930s jewels brochure)
