"Water Sheen and Rose Blush."

Fine vintage ring with untreated ruby & diamonds, around 1990

"The jewels were a composition of diamonds and rubies, and looked as delicate, pure, and noble as a mediæval work of art set in colors. A true enchantment lay about this intimacy of water-glow and rose-redness distributed in the sensuous figures, which can only be so taken from the thoughts of our ancestors." (Adalbert Stifter: Der Nachsommer, 1857) The magic of diamond and ruby jewelry that captivates the protagonists of Stifter's "Night Summer" also surrounds the vintage 1990s ring here. At the center, a wonderful natural ruby shines in intense red. The gemstone is cut as an oval cabochon, which brings out its color particularly well. A close-set pave of mostly flawless white diamonds surrounds the untreated ruby and beds it on a dome of sparkling light reflections. In this precious ring from the last decade of the 20th century, the wonderfully luminous ruby red is combined with the cool shimmer of the diamonds to create a stimulatingly beautiful composition with its own charm. An independent appraisal that once again confirms the quality of the gemstones is included with the ring.

The ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum to which the sapphire also belongs. With its fiery appearance, the ruby is one of the most precious gemstones, surpassed only by the diamond. Really first-class rubies are only found in a few places on earth. Most famous are the mines of the city of Mogok in Mynanmar (Burma). The best stones from this site are characterized by a particularly intense red color, which is called pigeon blood.
