On the south slope
Impressive Art Deco Pendant With Citrines In Gold, Circa 1930
Warmly shining, in an intense orange-gold, this impressive pendant with its three wonderfully faceted citrines shines towards us. Small reflections delight our eye, like rays of sunshine on a late summer day. When the first leaves of the trees begin to turn yellowish, the fruit stands seductively in the sun and the flowers smell heavy, the sun still warms us, lying on the southern slope, under the protection of the leaves of the tall trees - but the first inkling of the golden autumn can already be guessed. The pendant here from the 1930s shows itself in the formal language of German Art Deco with its preference for bizarre shapes. The rectangular pendant sets the three citrines in yellow gold. The openwork framing features concave curved gold elements with tiny gold beads that beautifully reflect the incoming light. Filigree curved tendrils of gold wire give the jewelry a lilting lightness. The pendant, an example of typical 1930s jewellery, is in very good condition and can be worn immediately around the neck with the matching gold chain.
For a brief moment it seemed possible, the dream of a happier society without hardship and poverty, in new luxury and beauty. The First World War was over, the economy began to warm up and a new style conquered art, architecture and crafts: Art Deco: The historical forms of the turn of the century were discredited with the demise of the old social forms. The new urge for fun-loving wealth demanded new forms, which the new objectivity was not able to fully satisfy: Referring back to clear geometries, symmetries and the most luxurious materials, the new formal language of the new era emerged: dynamic, splendid and modern!
