Elegant Art Deco ring with diamonds in white gold, around 1930

Germany experienced a stormy economic upswing in the mid-1920s. The great crises, the lost world war, the loss of the overseas colonies and the inflation of the post-war period were now over. Investments from the USA stabilized the Weimar Republic for a short time and gave the country a boom that contributed significantly to the characterization of the decade as the "Golden Twenties". The displays of the shops shone again in new luxury, and not least jewellery and jewels served to show this wild joie de vivre visibly to the outside world. The style of jewellery of these years developed away from the historicising forms that characterised the 19th century and drew new inspiration from geometry and graphic forms. The ring here is a piece of jewellery that is fully in keeping with this fashion. The ring widens on the finger into a transverse oval. Three wide stripes appear to tie the split ring rail together. And as the highlight of the composition, a quality transition-cut diamond of around 0.30 ct shines. Twelve smaller diamonds set all the other surfaces of the design, so that the ring gathers a total of around 0.78 ct of diamonds. The side view shows that the goldsmith also paid a great deal of attention to detail. The ring rail is decorated with classical engravings, and the undercading of short bars that allow light to reach the diamonds is in keeping with the design of the ring with its rhythm of bands. Typical of the time, the ring is made in platinum on white gold. We discovered the ring in Hanover. It was made in Germany.
