Three shimmering rows

Elegant pearl bracelet made of Akoya cultured pearls, around 1980

The greatest treasure and finest ornamental gift of the sea is surely the pearl. Formed over many years by the toils of the shell, it delights us with its luster and inimitable enamel. This elegant bracelet presents warm and white shimmering pearls in three rows. The large pearls with a diameter of almost seven millimetres shine softly and show few growth characteristics that identify them as a natural product. The three rows are held in shape by two intermediate bars of white gold. The clasp of the bracelet is made of silver and decorated with a vine pattern based on historical models. The bracelet was created in the years around 1980. It is a timeless classic and in very good condition.

In many cultures the pearl has a deep symbolic character. In China, for example, pearls are a symbol of wealth, wisdom and dignity; in Japan they signify good luck, in India the abundance of children. The pearl was also considered both an aphrodisiac and a cure for melancholy and madness. It also stands as a symbol for tears. Even among the Greeks and Romans, pearls were highly sought after as pieces of jewellery. The Greek term "margarita" was also used to refer to the beloved, as it were, a term that has survived to this day in the name Margarete. In the Middle Ages, pearls were considered a sign of love for God, and thus numerous fine monastic works have survived that are made of tiny river pearls. There are a variety of different pearl shells that can produce quite different pearls, so the study of pearls is a science in itself. Pearl jewellery belongs classically to every good basic equipment of a lady - in the jewellery box the classical pearl necklace may not be missing. With her you are always well dressed, she decorates for every occasion.
