My Lady Greensleeves
First class vintage ring with green tourmaline & diamonds, around 1965
"Alas my love, ye do me wrong, to cast me off discourteously: And I have loved you so long Delighting in your companie. Greensleeves was all my ioy, Greensleeves was my delight Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but Ladie Greensleeves." Who doesn't know the tune to this English song that sings of heartfelt desperate love for a lady with green sleeves? A perfect piece of jewelry for a lady who loves green, we can present to you here. A gorgeous green tourmaline has been chosen as the focal point of the ring. A frame of ultra-fine, flawless brilliant-cut diamonds in radiant white surrounds this precious center stone. The ring itself is forged from white gold and superbly supports the festive sparkle of its gemstone setting. The ring was made in Germany in the 1960s and came to us from an estate in southern Germany. An unusually beautiful ring of very good quality that also comes with an independent appraisal that once again confirms the quality of the gemstones.
Tourmaline is a gemstone that is able to captivate almost all gemstone lovers with its diverse play of colors. From blue to yellow, pink and green, almost all colors occur. Its wonderful radiance has made tourmaline one of the most highly valued gemstones since time immemorial. The name tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese word thuramali (තුරමලි) or thoramalli (තෝරමල්ලි), which was commonly used for colorful gemstones found in Sri Lanka. For Europe the name was first recorded in writing in 1707, or in 1711 under the name Chrysolithus Turmale. Larger quantities were not exported from Sri Lanka to Europe until the middle of the 18th century. At that time, the Dutch East India Company practically held a trade monopoly for tourmalines.
