Dance With Me Into the Morning
Fine Vintage White Gold Ring With 0.46 ct Diamonds, Circa 1970
The white gold ring presented here can be dated to the second half of the 20th century on the basis of the cuts of its diamonds, since the two large stones are gemstones in the modern brilliant cut, as it is still used today. The ten smaller diamonds are cut with fewer facets and show a beautiful 8/8 cut to make their sparkle softer - so they look like fine highlights, but the large stones deserve more attention. All the diamonds used here have a very good colour and clarity which makes them to stones with fantastic sparkle and wonderful light refraction. The diamonds are set in white gold and thanks to a hallmark inside the ring band we know that this fine piece of jewellery comes from the manufactory of Wilhelm Müller in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The carat weight of the diamonds is also noted here: a total of 0.46 carats of fine gemstones have been processed. As in a dance, the two protagonists are set slightly offset from each other. As if in close embrace, almost half a carat of white diamonds and high-carat white gold sparkle together. The result is a wonderful vintage ring that can be worn every day thanks to its insensitive materials.
The juxtaposition of the ring's two protagonists identifies the ring as a so-called "Toi-et-Moi" piece of jewellery. The genre of "you-and-me" jewellery are gifts of the most romantic nature and thus mostly gifts of love. Designs with two juxtaposed, similar elements, be it two precious stones or pearls, were very popular around 1900: people loved to play with symbols. In the Art Nouveau conception, man and woman face each other as lovers; recognizable as independent elements, yet firmly united by their feelings and symbolically united in one piece of jewellery.
