Mikimoto's Legacy

Fine white gold ring with large cultured pearl and diamonds, 1980s

After Kokichi Mikimoto succeeded at the beginning of the 20th century in producing cultured pearls of unprecedented quality, Japanese pearls have become the "must have" of almost every lady. Pearls are all-time classics that always look elegant and noble without being overdone. Whether they are worn as a necklace around the neck, adorn the finger or form an eye-catcher on the ear - little decorates like the gentle shimmer from the depths of the sea. The beautiful pearl with a diameter of more than 9.6 mm, which adorns this ring, also shimmers in that mysterious luster. The shank of high-carat white gold splits towards the pearl, and the ring shoulders are each set with three fine brilliant-cut diamonds that create beautiful highlights. The ring came to us in the Rhineland, where it was probably made. A goldsmith's mark and the stamped carat weight of the diamonds (0.16ct) indicate that it is a hand-forged unique piece.

A treasure from the depths of the sea - In many cultures around the world, the pearl has a deeply symbolic character. In China they are a symbol of wealth, wisdom and dignity; in Japan they signify good luck, in India the abundance of children. Even among the ancient Greeks and Romans, pearls were highly coveted as pieces of jewellery: the Greek term "margarita" was also used, as it were, to refer to the beloved, a term that has survived to this day in the name Margarete. The classic pearl necklace must not be missing from a lady's jewellery box
