Late Roman decadence?
Cufflinks in the style of the 4th century, Blachian around 1960
Founded as early as 1742 by Franz Eligius Blachian in Traunstein, the gold and silversmith Blachian Antik-Schmuck was dedicated to works from the past. Mostly cast in silver, more rarely in gold, the company produced jewelry whose individual forms were taken from works of art from different eras. Thus, in an old catalog of Blachian, in addition to Renaissance elements, you can find Romanesque and Gothic forms and those from the time of the migration of peoples. The pair of cufflinks here, made in the mid-20th century, features rectangular faces that show stylistic elements from the late Roman period of the 4th century. The silver is effectively patinated so that the fronts appear even more vivid. The pair of cufflinks came to us unworn from the estate of a Munich jeweler. It has retained the original label with the former retail price and a description of the Blachian company. The perfect shirt jewelry for the historically interested man of today!
Throughout the ages and in the diversity of cultures, goldsmithing and silversmithing have given us unique works of beauty. In museums and private collections, these jewels still bear witness to the rich culture of bygone times. Blachian Antique Jewellery (BAS) conveys the beauty of these ancient masterpieces in true-to-the-original and true-to-the-work renditions, thus giving luxurious pleasure. BAS is thus a mediator between the works of art of our ancestors and the people of the present time. BAS deepens and enriches the culture of the human soul." With these words, Blachian-Antique Jewellery, a gold and silversmith founded as early as 1742, describes itself in a 1950s sales catalog.
