One carat of joy
Classic solitaire ring with 1.03 ct brilliant in white gold, around 1960
A diamond is everlasting - and a wonderful symbol: The white gold ring here presents an antique diamond of more than one carat, which in its individual cut is quite typical of diamond shapes of the mid-20th century. The setting for the precious stone is made of high-carat white gold and was created at the same time as the cut of the diamond in the years around 1960. Its formal language takes up typical designs of the turn of the century and transforms them in the formal taste of the post-war period: the ring is lighter and finer than the earlier designs and also shines in the elegant coolness of white gold, which only became fashionable in the field of jewellery with the Art Deco of the 1920s. The setting holds the brilliant cut diamond in six pommels, allowing as much light as possible to reach the stone, allowing it to show off its brilliance to perfection. A perfect engagement gift or a pre-stud ring for the classic wedding ring!
The symbolic act of giving a diamond ring as an engagement gift is first documented in 1477 and can be traced back to Mary of Burgundy, who received a diamond ring as a promise of fidelity from her future husband, Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg. Wearing a ring as a sign of commitment on the left hand, was already the custom of the ancient Egyptians, who believed that the "love vein" connected the heart to the left ring finger.
