Precious snowflake brooch with 6,05 ct diamonds in white gold, around 1930

"The diamond, the jewel of winter, is the gem of light. Its color is that of ice, and as the dewdrop, the water droplets of a mountain stream, or an icicle sparkles in the sunlight, or as the stars twinkle on a cold winter night, so does the diamond" (translated from George Frederick Kunz, The Curious Lore of Precious Stones, 1913, p. 325). Especially since major diamond deposits were found in South Africa in the second half of the 19th century, the gemstone continued to inspire jewelry makers to create designs reminiscent of stars and snowflakes. A snowflake, formed of symmetrically arranged geometric shapes, flowers and ribbons, also represents the present brooch. Completely set with diamonds in white gold, it shines in a white light. A total of 145 old-cut and 8/8-cut diamonds totaling approximately 6.05 ct have been used to cover the entire surface of the brooch. With every movement and every change in light, the jewel glows in a different place and refracts the light into the colors of the rainbow. The cushion-shaped cut of some of the diamonds suggests that stones already cut in the 19th century were also used in secondary applications. We have had an independent appraisal made of the piece of jewellery to confirm the quality of its materials. Thus, the brooch is not only a wearable and decorative piece of jewellery in the cool and elegant aesthetics of Art Deco, but also an investment of lasting value.
