Precious vintage gold & sapphire pillbox, around 1950

In addition to our jewelry of all eras, we are happy to present you from time to time other small valuables. This vintage pillbox is such a find that we like so much that we want to share it with you. Small boxes and caskets made of gold and silver with precious decorations were first created in the 17th century to store snuff for a noble audience. They quickly advanced to become sought-after collector's items, which were also given as gifts for special merits. In the course of the 19th century, this custom then also migrated into the lives of ladies and corresponding boxes emerged as decorative objects, without being further intended for the use of snuff. Finally, at the end of the 19th century, the pharmaceutical industry experienced a great revolution when the tablet was introduced as a form of medicine. As a result, particularly elaborately designed tins became all the rage, designed to carry the tablets with you, because the blister pack had not yet been invented! That this tradition was still alive in the 20th century is illustrated by this gold pillbox from around 1950. The small box is forged from solid yellow gold and polished to a shiny finish. Its rounded shape is pleasant to the touch and easy to carry in a pocket. A blue sapphire cabochon studs the handle and adds a colorful accent. The fine hand-forged box, which found its way to us from Westphalia, is in very good condition and is a beautiful object for anyone with taste and enjoyment of luxurious accessories.
