Precious necklace of the art nouveau with pearls & diamonds, around 1900
This necklace pendant from the first years of the 20th century sparkles in the cool light of the diamonds and the soft shimmer of the pearls. A graceful pendant is centered on a chain of quality cultured pearls. Set with light platinum on the front, it presents itself as a floral composition of elegantly curved tendrils. Sixteen old-cut diamonds weighing a total of around 0.90 carats add their starry brilliance to the piece of jewellery. The platinum surfaces create a wonderfully cool white colour tone that shows off the stones to their best advantage and unites all the elements of the design. On the back, the jewel is crafted in yellow gold, typical of the period. A suspended pearl enlivens the pendant with its mobility and creates a visual link to the chain. The result is a harmonious piece of jewellery that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of its features and workmanship and can be the wonderful highlight of any wardrobe!
The growth and development of plants was one of the most important sources of inspiration for the artists of Art Nouveau: in their search for a new art that would bring man, uprooted by industrialization and the big cities, back into harmony with himself and his environment, they turned to natural forms and created from them their own, previously unseen designs. Especially in France, dynamic, organic forms were created; Hector Guimard's metro entrances, for example, are famous. This new style was quickly adopted in all other European countries and was always modified in its own way. In Germany there was a tendency towards geometry, in Spain towards fantastic forms, and in Great Britain a fashion of its own developed. Especially in the field of jewellery, a series of easily recognisable designs emerged, which are still convincing today due to their freshness in form and colour.
