Blossom Roundelay

Long earrings from antique cufflinks, Glasgow 1905 and later

Rose gold flowers blossom on these long earrings from Great Britain. A first blossom adorns the short ear hoops. It is sculpturally worked and offers a first highlight of the long, beautifully moving design. The blossom is followed by an elongated element consisting of two interlocking loops that are inseparable. Finally, an oval shield is attached at the bottom. It is engraved with further blossoms, set close together and against a background of delicate leaves. The earrings shimmer uniformly in the warm light of the red gold. The hallmarks on the oval fields attest that these were presented to the assayer in Glasgow in 1905. They probably originated as cufflinks. Then at a later date, when exactly we are unable to say, these cufflinks were then remodelled into the earrings we have here. Perhaps one of the buttons was lost? But in this way the beautifully engraved show pieces could continue to be worn. We discovered the earrings in London. They are a fine example of how jewellery can be brought back to life again and again over many generations.
