A love greeting from Portugal
Fabulous ruby parure with diamonds in white gold, Lisbon circa 2010
"Uma saudação de amor" - a true love greeting has reached us with this modern parure from Portugal: for its four large, luminous rubies blaze in the color of love; white diamonds and natural topaz frame and protect them, making their color shine even more wonderfully. The Parure, a set of pendant with necklace, ring and earrings was created in Lisbon, as the hallmarking of the jewels reveals. They are made of high karat white gold in the Portuguese alloy of 800/000 and richly set with natural gemstones. Framings of drop-cut topazes and brilliant-cut diamonds wrap in waves around the large rubies cut into cabochons. The four pieces of jewellery all follow the same design, giving the set a calm harmony. It is a variation on the classic Entourage motif, which is ideal for showcasing wonderful coloured gemstones to their best advantage. The quality of the gemstones and their natural origin has been confirmed by an independent institute in Idar Oberstein. The certificates produced there are supplied with the set. The jewellery pieces were newly created only a few years ago. Accordingly, they are in excellent condition.
"Some asked me where the rubies grew, And nothing I did say; But with my finger pointed to The lips of Julia." Robert Herrick No gemstone has been so often associated with passionate love in history and the arts as the ruby. Its color alone was what drew Robert Herrick to compare it to the rosy mouth of his beloved Juliet. Oscar Wilde, too, compared the red of the ruby to the color of the heart itself in his art fairy tale "The Nightingale and the Rose," and William Blake spoke of the "rubies and pearls" of the loving gaze.
