Festive and representative

Magnificent pearl necklace in three rows with diamond clasp, around 1950

Pearl necklaces are classics whose beauty will never go out of fashion. Particularly beautiful and of high quality is this three-strand necklace made of 197 white cultured pearls. The decisive factor for a beautiful pearl necklace is always the so-called matching, i.e. the selection of matching and matching pearls of high quality. In this case, it is particularly well managed to find matching colored pearls and gather a chain. the longest strand shows pearls with a slightly larger diameter, which gives the chain a special charm. A magnificent clasp made of silver and 18-karat gold forms a beautiful additional focal point. It consists of an airy openwork flower adorned with a fine set of a total of 17 rose-cut diamonds. The goldsmith's work repeats the blossom motif on the back in a fine engraving. The pearl necklace came to us from Amsterdam and was created in the years around 1950. Festive and representative at the same time, it delights the eye with its shimmer.

In many cultures the pearl has a deep symbolic character. In China, for example, pearls are a symbol of wealth, wisdom and dignity; in Japan they signify good luck, in India the abundance of children. The pearl was also considered both an aphrodisiac and a cure for melancholy and madness. It also stands as a symbol for tears. Even among the Greeks and Romans, pearls were highly sought after as pieces of jewellery. The Greek term "margarita" was also used to refer to the beloved, as it were, a term that has survived to this day in the name Margarete. In the Middle Ages, pearls were considered a sign of love for God, and thus numerous fine monastic works have survived that are made of tiny river pearls. There are a variety of different pearl shells that can produce quite different pearls, so the study of pearls is a science in itself. Pearl jewellery belongs classically to every good basic equipment of a lady - in the jewellery box the classical pearl necklace may not be missing. With her you are always well dressed, she decorates for every occasion.
