Beautiful long pearl necklace in gradient with clasp in white gold & gold, 1950s
It was a great sensation when the Japanese entrepreneur Mikimoto succeeded in cultivating saltwater pearls on a large scale in the early 1920s. Until then, pearl necklaces had to be made from naturally grown pearls, which were about as expensive as diamonds of the same size. It was not until the invention of the cultured pearl that pearl jewellery became affordable for a wider mass and triggered a great fashion that has lasted until today. Because: Pearls always decorate! The large and beautiful pearl necklace here dates from the 1950s and is held in place by a clasp in late Art Deco shapes. The necklace shines in the warm luster of its fine pearls, which grow to a thickness of 7.8 mm in velauf. The sea pearls are arranged in a sequence, i.e. they are sorted in such a way that they become thicker towards the middle. The gold clasp with a white gold face is set with another small pearl. The necklace is a timeless classic that should not be missing from any casket!
A treasure from the depths of the sea - In many cultures around the world, the pearl has a deeply symbolic character. In China they are a symbol of wealth, wisdom and dignity; in Japan they signify good luck, in India the abundance of children. Even among the ancient Greeks and Romans, pearls were highly coveted as pieces of jewellery: the Greek term "margarita" was also used, as it were, to refer to the beloved, a term that has survived to this day in the name Margarete. The classic pearl necklace must not be missing from a lady's jewellery box
