A Dream Comes True
An untreated Burma ruby in a diamond ring from Portugal, 1980s
Due to their outstanding quality, rubies from Burma are considered to be among the most precious rubies of all. One of the largest finding places in today's Myanmar is the area around Mogok. Here, exceptionally fine rubies are still found today, which often have such good natural color qualities that they do not require heating to improve the color. Today, about 98% of all rubies on the market are heated and artificially treated to optimize the color and purity of the stones. Untreated rubies, even more so from Burma, are therefore extremely sought-after rarities on the gemstone market. To ensure that our ruby, weighing just over two carats, is indeed an untreated Burmese ruby, we commissioned two appraisals to confirm the quality of the gemstone. The ruby in the ring here is completely natural and has not been heated. It forms the focal point of a classic gold entourage ring, lining the red gemstone with fine brilliant cut diamonds. The elegant setting, designed in the style of the late 19th century with detailed ring shoulders, makes the ring even more attractive. According to the hallmark, the jewel was created in Portugal; the combination of yellow gold and diamonds, as well as the pleasure of the historic shape, show that it was probably created in the 1980s. It was subsequently imported to France, where we discovered it in Paris. It is therefore made of the high 800/000 gold alloy common in Portugal and is in very good condition.
