It's so green...

Unusual Art Deco ring with tourmalines & diamonds, USA around 1930

Two green tourmalines in a round facet cut are the shining centers of this ring, which found its way to us here in Berlin. Made in the USA, according to the hallmark inside the ring band, we date it to around 1930. It is forged from 14-karat white gold and, in addition to the two green gemstones, holds a total of 16 old- and transition-cut diamonds with a total weight of about 0.47 carats, which add their sparkle to the ring face. Fine engraved details adorn the ring shoulders and strengthen the dating to the Art Deco years. Tourmalines are gemstones that come in a great many shades of color. From blue to yellow, pink and green, the color palette shows almost all the colors of the rainbow. The term tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese word "thuramali" (තුරමලි), which was used for colorful gemstones first found in Sri Lanka. In Europe, the name was first documented in 1707, when the first tourmalines arrived in Europe, with the sole trade monopoly initially held by the Dutch East India Company. In combination with the beautiful diamonds and the unusual setting, the two green tourmalines used here shine wonderfully and delight with their fresh colorfulness.
