Just as the first blossoms of the year, the snowdrop, the lily of the valley and the crocuses herald the new year and the restart of life after the dark winter, Art Nouveau in the evening years of the 19th century also wanted to dare a new beginning in the field of art and in life as a whole. New forms in architecture, painting and also in the arts and crafts were intended to help people achieve more freedom and also more happiness by aesthetically reshaping life. No wonder that the growth and development of plants was one of the most important sources of inspiration for the artists of this time. Thus, floral forms became the epitome of Art Nouveau as we see exemplified by this pendant. The piece of jewellery appears as an elegantly suspended bouquet of narrow leaves, between which are the blossoms of a daffodil and a snowdrop. A white diamond and a small ruby set glittering accents. The technique used to create the pendant is called "en trois couleurs". This is because the gold used is worked in alloys with three different shades. It therefore shines in reddish, yellowish and slightly greenish hues. The piece of jewellery is handcrafted to a high standard, just as it was in keeping with the ideals of early Art Nouveau. This new style was quickly adopted in all other European countries and was always modified in its own way. In Germany there was a tendency towards geometry, in Spain towards fantastic forms, and in Great Britain a fashion of its own developed. Especially in the field of jewellery, a series of easily recognisable designs emerged, which are still convincing today due to their freshness in form and colour.
