Vintage earclips with pearls in gold plated silver by Theodor Fahrner, 1950s

The jewelry factory Theodor Fahrner from Pforzheim first made a name for itself at the turn of the century, because it made artists' jewelry affordable. The company did not produce one-off pieces for a small elite like Lalique or Cartier, but rather mass-produced high-quality, creative designs in silver, decorated with enamel, marcasites and occasionally precious stones. Jewellers and department stores throughout Europe sold the jewellery, which Fahrner advertised extensively in journals and magazines: "Fahrner jewellery - based on designs by the best artists" allowed every woman to participate in a modern life full of beauty. Every year, travelling salesmen with large sample cases presented the new products developed in Pforzheim to the local dealers. One such sample case had been slumbering untouched in an attic for the last 40 years or more until we were allowed to discover it. It contained samples of all series from about 1919 until the dissolution of the company in 1979, mostly with a model number and marked with the "Original Fahrner" seal. The earclips here were also part of the large view assortment and are therefore unworn and in impeccable condition. The flower-shaped clips each hold a cultured pearl and show on the petals the fine cord soldering that characterized Fahrner filigree jewelry since 1932. This surface structure was still popular into the 1950s and was executed in different variations. A light gilding, the so-called gold wash, gives the earrings their characteristic colour. Still to be found on the earclips are the so-called Fahrner seals and the TF labels, which were used from the early 1950s onwards (cf. Theodor Fahrner. Schmuck zwischen Avantgarde und Tradition", edited by Brigitte Leonhardt and Dieter Zühlsdorff, Stuttgart 2005, p. 265). The old order number is noted on the back of the label.
