Walk through the times

Vintage earrings with old elements, around 1850 resp. 1995

The older a piece of jewellery is, the more likely it is that it has been altered, repaired or rebuilt at some point in the past. At Hofer Antique Jewelry, we like to mark and explain these changes: Because the change is not always bad and should be reversed. We just think that our customers should know what has happened to the piece of jewellery so that they can make an informed decision as to whether they like it as it is or not. The earrings here are such a case, because they consist of elements from different times. The central gold elements, each with a garnet in the middle, were probably originally part of a Biedermeier bracelet from around 1850, whereas the earwires and pendulums attached at the bottom were created much later. Their design corresponds to the so-called archaeological style of the 1870s. Their hallmarking, however, shows that they were made in 1995 according to old designs. All parts make a coherent whole. And so the different times of origin can be easily recognized, not least because the color of the gold of the elements is a little different. Obviously the elements of the bracelet, maybe it was not completely preserved, were combined with the pendulums and earwires in 1995 or shortly after, which resulted in the earrings. A successful combination, we think, which gives the elements of the Amrband a new life.
