Burma, no heat!
Vintage platinum ring with untreated 2.80 ct Burma ruby & diamonds, 1960s
Due to their outstanding quality, rubies from Burma are considered to be among the most precious rubies of all. One of the largest finding places in today's Myanmar is the area around Mogok. Extraordinarily fine rubies are still found here today, which often have such good natural color qualities that they do not require any heating, which would improve the color of the ruby. Today, about 98% of all rubies on the market are heated and artificially treated to optimize the color and purity of the stones. Untreated rubies, even more so from Burma, are therefore extremely sought-after rarities on the gemstone market. To ensure that our ruby, weighing just over two carats, is indeed an untreated Burmese ruby, we have commissioned two expert reports to confirm the quality of the gemstone as well as its origin. The ruby in this ring is completely natural and has not been heated. It forms the focal point of an intricately composed platinum entourage ring, which lines the red gemstone with fine diamonds of various cuts, lifting it up as if on a magnificent cushion. Brilliant-cut diamonds, diamond trapezoids, navette cuts and baguette cuts are worked in, all of which delight with their first-class colour and good clarity. The elegant setting, executed in the 1960s, with detailed workmanship, makes the ring with its precious center stone even more attractive.
"The jewels were a composition of diamonds and rubies, and looked as delicate, pure, and noble as a mediæval work of art set in colors. A veritable enchantment lay about this intimacy of water-glow and rose-redness distributed in the sensuous figures, which can only be so taken from the thoughts of our ancestors." Adalbert Stifter: Der Nachsommer, 1857
