Glamorous "Retro Style" brooch with diamonds in gold, spain around 1940

The bow motif has long been known as a brooch: As early as the 18th century, Rococo court ladies adorned themselves with corsage ornaments in the shape of bows, set with precious stones or sparkling glass. The Victorian era, the Belle Époque and Art Deco also adapted the bow to the prevailing aesthetic. The brooch here varies the old theme in the so-called Retro Style, the style of the late 1930s to early 1950s. The brooch, which we discovered in Barcelona, presents in its center a small bouquet of flowers set with glittering diamonds. It is surrounded by a double buckle of pink gold. Two bands with a light platinum cover and further diamonds complete the lively composition at the bottom. The brooch's elegantly asymmetrical shape is typical of the period in which it was created, for it was not until the late Art Deco period that the way of wearing brooches that we know best today became established: On the side under the shoulder, on a jacket or dress. Before that, brooches were often symmetrically designed, because they were intended to be worn in the middle of a corsage or on the collar of a blouse. A distinctive feature of the piece, however, is revealed only on second glance. The old cut of the diamonds in the center and the black enamel accents on the leaves reveal that an old jewelry fragment from the 1860s has become the brooch's starting point here. In Spain, as in the rest of Europe, the 1940s were a time of unrest and the use of old stones and fragments can be observed in numerous pieces of jewellery.
