Toi-et-moi in dance

Swinging vintage white gold ring with diamonds, around 1960

This white gold ring features a rich arrangement of large brilliant-cut diamonds and smaller diamonds in a classic composition. The two large diamonds, each weighing about a quarter of a carat, are offset from each other and seem to correspond as if in dance. Like two lovers in an intimate embrace, they are held securely by the ring rail that swings around them. The particularly sensual form of the so-called Toi-et-Moi ring was developed in the years around 1900 and has lost none of its charisma since then. Even today, jewellery pieces are created again and again that go back to this basic idea. In this ring, the white diamonds sparkle as if in an embrace of light - giving the ring a romantic touch. The high-carat white gold brings out the radiant fire of the stones particularly beautifully, which also boast wonderful light refraction thanks to their outstanding quality (vsi). The vintage ring was made around 1960 and is beautifully preserved. A high-quality as well as beautiful piece of jewellery that can be worn without restrictions as an expression of love and solidarity.

The juxtaposition of the ring's two protagonists identifies the ring as a so-called "Toi-et-Moi" piece of jewellery. The genre of "you-and-me" jewellery are gifts of the most romantic nature and thus mostly gifts of love. Designs with two juxtaposed, similar elements, be it two precious stones or pearls, were very popular around 1900: people loved to play with symbols. In the Art Nouveau conception, man and woman face each other as lovers; recognizable as independent elements, yet firmly united by their feelings and symbolically united in one piece of jewelry.
