Timeless earrings with jade & diamonds in platinum, circa 1950 and later

The art of Far Eastern cultures has long been considered an inspiration for European artists: so different was the foreign perspective, so fresh the shapes and colors for the Western eye. As early as the end of the 16th century, Delft ceramists were producing blue and white objects based on the Chinese model. Then, in the late 19th century, the artists of Art Nouveau dared to renew Western art - not least with the help of the flowing lines they had become acquainted with in Japanese woodblock prints. From the 1920s onwards, Chinese impulses once again found their way into Central European jewellery designs. The focus of interest was now on green jade, that characteristically Chinese material. In combination with gold, platinum and diamonds, jewels were created that had never been seen before. Such jewels from the Art Deco period were the inspiration for these earrings. Their design, in the form of a moving chain of fine brilliant-cut diamonds in millegriffes settings, to which a pendulum is attached, is directly inspired by Art Deco models, but the diamond cuts reveal that they were only created in the post-war period. Diamond necklaces reached us without the original stone or pearl at the bottom, so we had our workshop add nephrite jade pendulums based on Art Deco designs. A flower setting with further set diamonds holds the jade. The resulting couple is a Mariage, from French. Wedding, thus marrying two originally separate elements into a coherent whole. The earrings are very well preserved and unique.

Crafted of platinum, the design culminates in a generously proportioned pendulum of dark green nephrite jade marbled with light and dark accents. A flower setting with additional set diamonds holds the jade. It is only details that reveal that our pair was made in later times. We were able to discover it in Vienna.
