Precious necklace of large coral balls in the course, 1980s
No two corals are alike. Some shine in a deep red, others in heavenly rosé-white, so that they are traditionally addressed as "angel skin". Still others show an individual marbled play of colours, combining intense red tones and shimmering rosé parts. The coral necklace here consists of beads that shimmer in this varied, individual way. Waves and layers in the most different shades from red to rosé present a beautiful, varied, warm play of colours that has captured the summer. The necklace is composed of 53 coral beads that have been cut and polished by hand; the largest bead in the middle measures a proud 1.7 cm in diameter. The shiny polished necklace with its particularly large coral beads is a precious piece. An independent certificate has confirmed the quality of the corals and is included.
Red coral was already regarded as a good luck charm in classical antiquity and from the 17th century, for example, has been handed down from Venice: "Portati dovunque l'huomo sia, ò in casa, ò in nave, scaccia le cattive ombre de gli spiriti, sogni, fulmini, venti, e tempeste e gli diffende da ogni assalto di fiere." - "Wherever a man goes, whether he is at home or traveling by ship, the coral drives away the evil shadows of spirits, bad dreams, lightning, winds, and tempests, and protects against every evil." Quoted from Isabella Palumbo Fossati Casa: Intérieurs vénitiens à la Renaissance. Maisons, société et culture, Paris 2012, p. 276. In Naples, people still use amulets made of coral to protect themselves and their children against all kinds of evil.
