Star cast in platinum
Gorgeous 1.31 ct brilliant in a platinum ring from our workshop
Among all precious stones, among all the treasures of nature, one stone in particular stands out. The diamond has always been the king of all jewels, the epitome of precious jewellery. Its fire, its brilliance, but also its pure white colour make it the most sought-after gemstone, the star of any jewellery: the ring presented here from our workshop is created to optimally present a selected, large diamond. In our daily work with antique jewellery, we have seen numerous wonderful diamond rings. Many put their gemstones in a seductive light and pleased us with their design or shape. However, for those customers who prefer to find a new, previously unworn ring, we have combined all of these qualities into one piece: This ring is the essence - we think - of elegant form and the best materials, and perhaps the most beautiful way to wear a diamond. The ring widens in its construction in several stepped stages. Smaller diamonds pave the way from the ring band until, held by four flat lobes, the large diamond shines in the center of the ring. In the platinum ring here, a brilliant cut diamond is set, which delights with a weight of 1.31 carats and excellent color. It shows some inclusions and is classified as piqué (p1), but the slight flags that run through the stone hardly disturb the brilliance and fire of the stone. The design of the ring is based on the forms of the Art Deco of the twenties. The basis is an elegant geometry of squares and circles, which are intertwined and staggered to compose the ring and its face. With this design, we want to recall the Berlin of the 1920s, when the city was the metropolis of film, theatre and numerous revues and shone in the spotlight of the stages. The side view of the ring reveals fine engravings that enliven the surfaces in gentle relief. The ring's design also allows plenty of light to reach the diamonds for optimal sparkle. At the same time, it has a flat design and even the large diamond remains close to the finger, making the ring comfortable to wear.
A ring with a single, large diamond is considered the classic engagement ring today. Here, the precious (and, according to legend, indestructible) stone stands for eternity - which is thus meant to underline the duration of the promise made with it. Significant for this connection was the New York jeweller Charles Lewis Tiffany. Tiffany first marketed such rings through his mail-order catalog in 1886 and specifically promoted them as engagement gifts. In fact, however, the tradition of seeing a diamond ring as a symbolic piece of jewellery is far older. As early as 1477, it is said, Duchess Mary of Burgundy received a diamond ring as a promise of fidelity from her future husband Maximilian of Habsburg. Another interesting chapter on this subject can still be followed today in the art city of Florence. Here Piero de' Medici chose the diamond ring as his personal emblem, as his imprese. The son of Cosimo and father of Lorenzo il Magnifico had this ring, adorned with only one diamond around a banner with the inscription "SEMPER", i.e. "always", placed on all the buildings for which he was responsible, but also on everyday objects. Families linked to the Medici, such as the Rucellai, adopted this sign: We still see it today on the façade of their city palazzo. Even in Medici times, the diamond ring was a sign of eternity.
