Mani in Fede
Unusual platinum wedding ring, made in our workshop
In earlier times, jewellery always had a certain meaning and often conveyed a message. Rings with two interlocking right hands, for example, were already symbols of love and friendship in antiquity. They are still known today in goldsmithing under the term "fede", from the Italian "mani in fede" (roughly: "hands in faith"). These rings were usually gifts between two lovers and were meant to express the togetherness of two people. During the Renaissance, this motif was taken up again. A number of rare early examples have survived in the major museums of decorative arts; the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, for example, holds a small selection that is well worth a look. See, for example, the 15th-century ring with inventory number M204-1975 from the collection of Joane Evans. Looking for beautiful inspiration for wedding bands and engagement rings, we liked the old idea of rings with the two hands because they are so eloquently symbolic. Taking cues from historic feather rings, our goldsmith built a model that is here in platinum. The ring can be worn by both men and women. Due to its construction, but also due to its meaning, it is suitable as a wedding ring, engagement ring or friendship ring. An unusual piece of jewellery and a speaking symbol with historical references!
