It's the collar

Antique bar brooch with pearls & diamonds, England around 1895

Brooches belonged until not so long ago to the indispensable pieces of jewelry. No lady would have left the house around 1950 without a brooch, because without a brooch the clothing was not complete. How and where the brooch was worn on the clothes changed according to the respective fashions. Since the end of the century the so-called "collar brooch" was popular, which was worn frontally in front of the neck at the height of the top button of high-necked blouses. The present example is such a collar brooch. The brooch is designed in the soft, curved shapes of the Belle Époque. It presents four pearls in a warm pale cream hue. Waves of old-cut diamonds connect the pearls, evoking a serene day by the sea. Together with some smaller rose-cut diamonds, around 0.40 ct of diamonds are gathered here. The front of the brooch is made of silver, which was the usual way of creating diamond jewelry in the late 19th century. The reverse side, however, is forged in gold, as is the pin, which was renewed once in the past. Today, the brooch is also completely rhodium-plated, i.e. it has been given a coating of rhodium so that it shines uniformly white. The fine brooch has survived in an antique case belonging to a British jeweller, and was probably made in Britain. We discovered it in London.
